Liver Pain

The liver is the largest gland and detoxifier of the human body for this reason it’s very important to act immediately if you feel liver pain. It is situated on the right of the abdomen below the ribs and diaphragm that separates the abdomen and the chest. The liver performs various functions. Some of them include breaking down of food materials, producing urea, conversion of glucose to glycogen, producing amino acids, removing harmful substances from the blood, maintaining the blood glucose level and storing minerals and vitamins. As a detoxifier, it filters the wastes from the body. When the liver is not functioning properly it can result in liver pain. In many conditions like Gilbert’s syndrome, Wilson’s disease, Hepatitis A, B and C, pain is usually observed.

Causes of Liver Pain

There are various reasons for liver pain. The presence of excess fats makes the liver swollen and cause pain. Hypertension, diabetes type 2 and metabolic syndrome are certain medical conditions that cause pain in the liver. Enlarged spleen is also one of the reasons for liver pain. Drinking alcohol and patients in the last stage of liver cancer undergo severe liver pain. There are numerous other conditions that lead to the pain like biliary obstruction, cholangitis, congestive cardiac failure, drugs, gallstones, hepatic vein thrombosis, hepatitis, hepatic abscess, Hodgkin’s disease, Hepatocellular carcinoma, liver abscess, leukemia, lymphoma, tender liver, tuberculosis and toxins etc.

Liver Pain Treatment

If you have severe liver pain for quite some time it is better to consult your doctor and get treated immediately. He may examine all the liver disease symptoms and diagnose the cause. The treatment given for each person varies according to the symptoms and body conditions. The treatment usually aims at eliminating all the symptoms. For example, if a patient is suffering from liver pain due to consuming alcohol every time, then he will be advised to quit drinking before starting the medications.
Liver pain can be relieved by administering different kinds of treatments like enough hydration and electrolyte repletion, providing good sanitation, clean drinking water and proper personal hygiene. Patients who are unable to take oral medications are usually admitted in the hospital for treatment. Some of the medications used include Flagyl, antiviral agents, Interferon alpha II b, 3TC, Entecavir and Adefovir.

Alternative cures for liver pain

There are some alternative cures as well. They involve the use of some simple, safe and easy techniques. The most important liquid for the human body is water. It helps to remove all the waste materials and toxins. So, taking at least 8 glasses of water every day is highly recommended. Diet plays an important role. Try to include various fresh fruits, vegetables and juices. Some significant items include brown rice, broccoli, legumes, plums and asparagus. Food supplements are also very beneficial. Vitamin B1 can reduce the blood glucose levels in the body. Lack of vitamin A is also one of the reasons for liver diseases. Vitamin A and K supplements are beneficial. Linseed oil is very useful for enhancing the proper functioning of the liver. Herbal detoxification is also a good way to get rid of the toxins. Before following any of these it is better to consult your doctor and follow his advice to get rid of the liver pain.
